Abstract

Background: The prevalence of sleep problems in Indonesian children aged 0-36 months is quite high (31%). Babies experiencing sleep disorders with symptoms of frequently waking up at night occur in Indonesia at around 44.2%. However, it is estimated that more than 72% of parents do not consider sleep disorders in babies to be a problem. In fact, sleep disorders can interfere with the baby's growth, make the body's immune function vulnerable, and disrupt the regulation of the endocrine system. Sleep disorders in babies are recommended for non-pharmacological treatment, namely skin to skin contact which can improve the quality of the baby's sleep. Objective: The aim of this research is to determine the effect of skin to skin contact on the sleep quality of babies aged 0-6 months. Method: This research uses a pre-experimental method using one group pre-test and post-test. The research sample used an accidental sampling technique of 7 babies with sleep disorders. Results: There is an influence of skin to skin contact on baby sleep quality with a p value of 0.012 (<0.05). The average quality of baby sleep before being given skin to skin contact was 2.50 and the average after being given skin to skin contact was 1.30. Conclusion: There is an influence of skin to skin contact on the quality of baby's sleep. Babies who experience sleep disorders after being given skin to skin contact using the kangoroo method become calmer and fall asleep easily. This allows the baby to be in a stable state in the mother's arms and avoid negative emotions that make the baby fussy. So that the baby can sleep comfortably and calmly in the mother's arms.
